On 14 April 2026, Member of the German Bundestag Markus Koob and the German Africa Foundation welcomed the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Ronald Lamola, to a parliamentary breakfast in Berlin. The event took place in the context of the meeting of the German–South African Binational Commission and provided an opportunity for a confidential exchange with Members of the German Bundestag, as well as representatives of federal ministries, think tanks and political foundations.
The discussion focused on South Africa’s foreign policy priorities and the country’s role in a changing international order. Against the backdrop of shifting global power dynamics, participants addressed issues of multilateral cooperation, prospects for the further development of multilateral institutions, and current international and regional conflict dynamics, including African peace initiatives. With regard to bilateral relations, particular attention was given to the outcomes of the Binational Commission, economic prospects for cooperation, investment potential, and avenues for deepening the partnership.
The event underscored the importance of German–South African relations and the value of open dialogue on key issues in international politics.
