African Studies Meets Practice: Symposium in Memory of Franz Ansprenger

In memory of Prof. Dr. Franz Ansprenger (Free University of Berlin), who died in 2020, the German Africa Foundation is organising the event “African Studies Meets Practice: Symposium in Memory of Franz Ansprenger” on 6 and 7 September 2021 in cooperation with the “Ansprenger Students”.

The event is intended to honour Prof. Ansprenger’s influential work as a doyen of German African studies and at the same time to address the current state of political science engagement with Africa and to network currently active African researchers with practitioners.

Opening event with former Federal President Horst Köhler followed by a reception


Day 2: 7 September 2021

9:00 – 10:30hrs:
1st session: German-African economic relations

11:00 – 12:30hrs:
2nd session: Transformation of African agriculture

14:00 – 15:30hrs:
3rd session: Security and development in the Sahel region

16:00 – 17:30hrs:
4th Session: Role of the Diaspora in Africa’s Economic Development.
