Kenya is considered an important anchor of stability in a volatile region and a strategic partner for Germany in a changing geopolitical situation. This year, the Republic of Kenya is not only celebrating 60 years of independence, but also the 60th anniversary of German-Kenyan diplomatic relations – a fitting occasion to take a look at the future shape of German-Kenyan relations and discuss how global challenges can be overcome together. Thus, H.E. President Ruto travelled to Berlin together with a high-ranking ministerial delegation on the occasion of the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue 2023. Under the patronage of Dr Christoph Hoffmann, the German Africa Foundation invited members of the German Bundestag and other representatives from politics and business to a working lunch with President Ruto, Foreign Minister Hon. Alfred Mutua, Energy and Petroleum Minister Hon. Davis Chirchir, Minister of Transport Hon. Kipchumba Murkomen and Minister of Finance Hon. Njuguna Ndungu to exchange views on the future of German-Kenyan relations, possibilities of cooperation e.g. in the fields of energy and environment as well as on the domestic political situation in an informal setting.
